Pictures from Rax
Last month on a Saturday, the Lab had a mountain adventure. Some people climbed up a moutain, know as Rax, others of us took a cable car most of the way up and down. It was very scenic. Here are some pictures I took.

The internet is here!
I finally got my internet service installed yesterday. The service isn't as fast as the DSL in Illinios, but still way faster than dial-up. Been getting two months of security upgrades installed from Windows Update. Also installed free fire wall and anti-virus software. So more posts will be forthcoming.

Light at the End of the Tunnel
Well still no internet at home, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel, the installer is scheduled to come on Saturday morning. Finally!

Michael's Still Alive!
I was asked to post a quick note because people are worrying.
I haven't been posting because I haven't been able to get internet access in my apartment. I'm able to sneak quick looks at email at work and get to an Internet Cafe a couple of times a week after work. Can't work offline on blog entries and then upload them to the internet because my laptop doesn't have access to the internet like it did in the hotel room. And even though it's not as bad as in the hotel room, It's still expensive to access the internet by the minute. Also I have to struggle with a German_language keyboard ("Y" and "Z" keys are reversed; punctuation is a real hunt and search operation.)
Don't know when I'll get internet access so posts will be few and far-between till then. I promise to post as soon as I get it but it may be a while yet.

10 Days Later
Sorry, I haven't posted for a while. I promised my sister I would post something. Big news is that I have moved into my apartment on the Praterstern. Hectic day yesterday. Getting the deposit from the bank (a story in itself for a later time), taking occupancy, running around like crazy getting essentials, then getting to bed early so I could get up before 6 to get ready for work and be able to catch the bus to Seibersdorf (where my laboratory, SAL is located.) That's the worst aspect of the new job; having to get up early every morning to take the bus. Still getting used to it, still have terrible jet lag.
Other quick observations about Vienna, store hours are bad. Stores close at 7 (or 1900 as we say in Europe) during the week and at 6 on Saturday. And Sunday? Forget it, everything is closed!
Vienna had a reputation for being expensive even before the dollar took a dive versus the Euro, now it's unbelievable. I spent $5 for a cheap glass. $45 for a bath mat, $24 for a towel.
Oh well, the bread is great here and so far it hasn't been too bad.
